Mission

Monterey Bay Charter School is a TK-8 public school serving the Monterey Peninsula. Committed to educating the whole child, the school endeavors to foster each child’s full potential. Founded in 1998, Monterey Bay Charter School is guided by the Core Principles for Public Waldorf Education and is a member of the Alliance for Public Waldorf Education.

The Big Idea

Monterey Bay Charter School serves transitional kindergarten through eighth grade with a commitment to educating the whole child. The school endeavors to foster each child’s full potential. This school year, they will be maximizing the use of outdoor spaces, utilizing outdoor play in a fresh-air, safe environment. In order to teach outdoors, teachers and students need weather-resistant furniture and equipment, including wooden stumps and benches for seating, shelter such as canopies or tents, and outdoor equipment that promotes movement and hands-on play (like gardening equipment, wooden bridges and stepping stones). Outdoor learning has proven successful in a mild climate such as Monterey County’s, and the school hopes to promote an inviting outdoor learning experience for children when they can return to school.
