mySAEBRS: Student Social / Emotional / Behavior Screener
As part of our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) model, MBCS will screen students’ social-emotional and behavior skills during the 2025-2026 school year. We will use the mySAEBRS and SAEBRS screening tools by Illuminate to identify students who require more teaching and support with these skills.
Students in 2nd through 12th grades complete the mySAEBRS self-assessment, which is a 20-item rating scale for students to self-report their skills in the areas of social behavior, academic behavior, and emotional behavior. Items vary slightly by student age to align with developmental appropriateness. Students can choose to take the screener in English or Spanish. A copy of the screener items are included below.
During the 2025-2026 school year, this screening tool is anticipated to be administered three times, once in the fall, winter and spring.
Nonacademic Tests, Questionnaires, Surveys & Exams
HB 2567 Section 27
Nonacademic Tests, Questionnaires, Surveys & Exams include questions about personal and private attitudes, values and beliefs, as well as practices of the student, parents, guardians, family members, associates, friends and/or peers. Screeners and other measures that impact academic progress and instructional practice (SAEBRS, Trusted Adult Surveys, etc.) are not subject to HB 2567. When administering Nonacademic Tests, Questionnaires, Surveys & Exams, USD 418 will:
- Notify the parent in writing no more than four months before administration of the Nonacademic Tests, Questionnaires, Surveys and Exams (NTQSE).
- Include a copy of the NTQSE; describe how the parent provides written consent; provide the name of the company or entity; and explain how the data will be used.
- The parent must “opt-in” with consent in writing or electronic signature for each NTQSE.
- The student may “opt-out” of the NTQSE, and must be informed of this right.
- Post a copy of the NTQSE on the school district website.
MBCS will use the mySAEBRS screening tool to assess students’ social-emotional skills three times during the current academic year, identifying those who need additional support.
