The Family Giving Drive is the centerpiece of Monterey Bay Charter School’s fundraising efforts. The Family Giving Drive supports MBCS’s programs – high-quality Waldorf-inspired subject classes, supplies, and training – that are not funded by the State of California education funding model. The money raised with Family Giving is a crucial portion of our annual operating budget. This yearly fund-raising effort raises money that is essential for ensuring the quality of the educational experience for our students. Every year we ask and invite all the families with children enrolled at MBCS to invest in their children’s education. Families are asked to contribute, and budget for, a meaningful gift to MBCS.
While many families donate a monthly pledge amount, many families prefer to donate a one lump sum during the year-(see “MC GIVES” below). Others families make multiple gifts; for example, they may make one gift in the fall and then make another gift in the spring after receiving their tax refund. Gifts range from $20 to in excess of $10,000. We invite you to choose a plan that works for your family. As MBCS is a 5013c, donations are 100% tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Monterey County Gives
Monterey County Gives (MC GIVES) is a program that helps you to easily donate to non-profit organizations. And best of all, every organization you donate to through Monterey County Gives! will receive an additional amount on top of your donation through the overall match. This overall match is based on a percentage each organization raises, up to $75,000. In addition, some organizations also have individual Challenge Gifts. Your support goes a long way when you donate through Monterey County Gives! It’s a win for everyone.
The Big Idea
Giving Steam to S.T.E.A.M. is a campaign to build and expand Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math education at Monterey Bay Charter School. We are joining the national initiative to educate young students in these competencies so that many will be motivated to explore these growing career fields. As our school is transitioning to the national new science standards, we have committed to a plan to build more S.T.E.A.M. offerings throughout our educational program. This will require an investment in materials and curriculum, and for critical professional staff development so that our faculty can lead this new material with skill and knowledge. To expand S.T.E.A.M., a new class will be offered this school year as an elective for our middle-school, grades 6th-8th grades. S.T.E.A.M. components will also be added to the elementary grades in the current mystery, garden and other classes. Finally, because MBCS has a deep commitment to empirical learning through field trips, we will also be adding S.T.E.A.M. related field trips. At MBCS we believe that it is crucial to educate and prepare the next generation of the American, and global workforce.
