Celebrating Black History Month at MBCS

In eighth grade, their history block has been focusing on biographies of change makers in modern US history (Civil War to Civil Rights).

The students main lesson book content has been a series of pencil portraits, quotations, and short biographical narratives. The students are also doing oral presentations in which they choose and present the life of an important figure in the struggle for justice and equality in the United States. Many of the figures they could choose from are black Americans but also Latino, Asian American, Indigenous and/or LGBTQ+. The five stories told by eighth grade teacher, Mr. Joseph, were of MLK, Harriet Tubman, John Brown (the fascinating and controversial white abolitionist) Frederick Douglass, and Billie Holiday. We have included some beautiful student drawings above.

Thank You Pebble Beach AT&T Pro-Am Volunteers!

The AT&T Pro-Am was the weekend of February 4, 2022. MBCS is honored to be a preferred nonprofit organization that provides volunteers to make the event possible. Over one hundred MBCS volunteers showed up to work our 15th Fairway concession stand. We had a blast while raising money for our beautiful school. THANK YOU volunteers!

It’s Time for the Annual MBCS Spring Auction!

The annual Spring Auction is our school’s largest fundraiser! A group of dedicated parent volunteers work all year long to obtain donations for our online auction, assemble raffle baskets and plan a themed party that is open to the community. Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner, drinks, and music!

Every February, grandparents and loved ones are invited to visit our school. Grandparents and loved ones then join students in their classroom for activities. This is a lovely MBCS tradition and a great opportunity to share Monterey Bay Charter School with that special person in your student’s life. Thank you for joining us for a day of fun grandparents and loved ones!
Thank you for reading our newsletter. We hope you are having a great day!
