Festival of Courage Fun!

Taming Our Dragons

On Thursday, September 25, families were warmly invited to join us for our Festival of Courage, a seasonal Autumn festival dedicated to finding a sense of strength and peace in community and to “tame our dragons.”

Outwardly, “dragons” appear as challenging life circumstances. Inwardly, they arise as difficult emotions and mental states that disrupt our equilibrium and shake our comfort zone. With courage, wisdom, and the support of loving friends, we do not need to fight these dragons, but instead we can learn to work with them skillfully, harness their energy and transform them into opportunities to become better people and do good in the world. This is the theme of our Courage Play.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! Check out the beautiful seventh grade dragons below.

Thank You for Supporting Our Fall Auction!

Together we raised over $36,000

A huge thank-you to everyone who joined us for the Monterey Bay Charter School Fall Auction Party!

Because of your incredible participation—through attending, bidding, donating, and spreading the word—we raised over $36,000, after expenses, to support our school’s programs and enrich the learning experience for all MBCS students.

Your enthusiasm, generosity, and community spirit truly made this event a success. From the creative class raffle baskets to the lively auction bids and festive Halloween costumes, it was a night to remember!

We are deeply grateful for our staff, families, and volunteers who helped make this year’s Fall Auction such a meaningful and fun celebration.

Ocean Guardian Beach Clean Up Success!

A few weeks ago, MBCS kicked off our first Beach Clean-Up of the year — and what an amazing turnout we had!

🌊 35 adults and 40 students came together to care for our coastline.

🗑️ Together, we collected an incredible 520 pounds of trash.

🍩 And, of course, we fueled our efforts with over 100 donuts and bagels!

Close to 20,000 volunteers have already participated in California Coastal Cleanup 2025. THANK YOU!

With 40% of the cleanup sites reporting, the statewide count stands at 19,987 volunteers. Those volunteers picked up 139,650 pounds of trash and an additional 38,646 pounds of recyclable materials, for a total of 178,296 pounds or 89 tons.

A huge thank you to everyone who showed up to make a difference. We hope to see you and your family at the next Beach Clean-Up!

Your Donations Make a Big Difference

Please remember that your donations make a big difference. Your contributions to classroom supplies and annual giving directly support our school programs, enrich our incredible field trips, and help our school.

Monterey Bay Charter School is thrilled to partner with Monterey Skates for an exciting evening the whole family can enjoy. The fundraiser will take place during our regular Friday open skate on November 7th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. The ambiance will be perfect for kids, teens, parents, grandparents, and anyone who wants to help MBCS while enjoying great music, vibrant lights, and plenty of smiles. Tickets are $12 per skater (free admission for non-skaters), and MBCS earns $5 for every fundraiser ticket sold!

Celebrating Kindness Month

October is National Anti-Bullying and Kindness Month, and at Monterey Bay Charter School, we dedicate this time to addressing key concerns among our students.

Each year, our counseling team and administration choose a focus based on the results of our spring family satisfaction survey. This year, our campaign centers on standing up against bullying.

Earlier this month, the Student Council and counseling team visited each classroom to introduce Anti-Bullying and Kindness Month, the Kindness Ambassador program, and Class Kindness Pledges.

At MBCS, every class has a Kindness Ambassador who helps promote kindness within the classroom. These ambassadors are trained by the School Counselor and serve as part of the Student Council. Students self-nominate for the role, and ambassadors are then elected by their peers and teacher. This marks the fourth year of the MBCS Kindness Ambassador program.

Last week, we held an assembly to announce the Kindness Ambassadors for the 2025-2026 school year. Each ambassador was recognized on stage, received their lanyard and peace cards, and presented their Class Kindness Pledge. These pledges are unique to each class and represent a collective commitment to kindness and respect throughout the school year.
